Gees: The most important is how music has the power to connect people.
Nova Sonora : Hi Gees, thanks for chatting with us today. What are your first electronic music
memories?
Gees : Hello! Thank you for having me! My first experience with electronic music was on 2010 when i
first listen to some EDM tunes , and Hardstyle music.
Nova Sonora : What was your upbringing like? Was music always at the forefront of your
childhood experiences? Please share with us some of those experiences that helped shape you as a
person and artist.
Gees: I was in music because my grandmother used to sing traditional
Cypriot music. I was always used to open cupboards and find cds and
cassettes from Dire Straits, Scorpions e.t.c.
And at the age of 8 i begun some guitar lessons for a few years. And then i
bought a drum set and use to play by my own.
At 18 i bought a dj equipment and start experimenting in my bedroom for
hours.
And these last 5 years i start to produce my own music.
Nova Sonora : How has growing up and living in Cyprus affected the music you make? Or
has it at all?
Gees : In Cyprus we have middle eastern culture, so mostly im inspired from
traditional and ethnic music.
We have great nature as well so if you stuck sometimes at the studio
session, you can go out to nature to relax.
Nova Sonora : Good to hear that the Cyprus scene is thriving. How do you feel about the
dynamics of the scene in general?
Gees: I feel it’s really good , but still room for improvement..
Nova Sonora : Iphone or Android?
Gees : Phone
Nova Sonora : How would you describe the music you make?
Gees: My music is mostly inspired by ancient or medieval cultures or ethnic music and i really like to
blend this with electronic touches from energetic synths.
Nova Sonora : And where do you make music? Do you have a nice studio?
Gees : I have a really basic home studio. With not extremely expensive equipment but i really enjoy
spending hours in it!
Nova Sonora : What’s a book you’ve read or film you watched that has left an impact on you, and
why?
Gees : It is a lot to be honest. It’s difficult to choose one.
If i have to say, The Shawshank Redemption has an impact on me as the
massage you can change things if they are not possible to change
Nova Sonora : Is there a movie you would have loved to have produced the soundtrack for?
And if so why?
Gees : I really love the sound design from some movies and series. I believe when i get older i will
experiment to write for a movie
Nova Sonora : What are you looking for when choosing your dancefloor material?
Gees : The most important for me is to feel the music firstly.
Usually i adapt with the place that i will perform, and I’m trying to imagine
what sound it will work.
so everyone will had great experience to remember
Nova Sonora : What are your two favorite tracks, to open and close a set with, and why?
Gees : To be honest I don’t have a specific track to open or close the night. I have some closing and
opening tracks that’s work for me, and usually depends from the vibe
Nova Sonora : What makes you most excited about music right now?
Gees : Im excited when i see the dance floor ,full of people dancing and
smiling or singing.
And the most important is how music has the power to connect people.
Nova Sonora : Do you keep an eye open for what others are doing? Are there any
producers out there that you might recommend on listening too?
Gees : Yes sure! Im inspired from the other artists as well.
They are a lot of music producers out there today, so you can listen to other
ideas as well, and grow and improve as well as an artist and music producer
Nova Sonora : What is your vision for the future of music?
Gees : I’m enjoying the process. I really like to improve and getting better
every day.
I love to be around the world, so the most important thing to me is to perform
and share vibes globally
Nova Sonora : Can you mention a special song for you to finish the interview?
Gees : Dancing For The Answers - Nick Mulvey (Squire & Karcelen)
Nova Sonora : Thank you again for your time and the opportunity to meet you.
